The confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers is one of the most historically significant landscapes in Minnesota. The location is known to many Dakota people as Bdote, which is translated as "where two waters come together."
The town built at this historic confluence was given the name Mendota, which means meeting of the waters.
Bdote is beyond simply the heart of the Twin Cities, it is a place where rivers and people have come together for at least 10,000 years.

The little town of Mendota is never far from my memory.
The very word “Mendota” conjures up a host of people, places and occurrences, a meeting of the waters, as it were.
I grew up there, absorbed the local environment, enjoyed returning there often and hope to be buried there.
Once a Mendotan, always a Mendotan.
